The Umhlanga Sands resort is situated in Umhlanga Rocks, Umhlanga which is in Durban, South Africa.
Our experience at Umhlanga Sands was nothing short of excellent. We booked our stay from 29 June 2019 – 6 July 2019. The service that we received from Faheema at Happy Holidays, with whom we booked the time share, was excellent. Confirmation of our booking was given to us as soon as our payment was made. Timeshare options are a great way to experience amazing hotels at bargain prices. Just be careful to book with a trustworthy and reputable timeshare sales person.
When we arrived there was complimentary popcorn and candy floss at the entrance of the hotel which the kids really enjoyed. A porter assisted us in taking our luggage to our room. The check-in process was seamless. The paperwork at check-in was very minimal and took really quick. Before I knew it my room keys were handed to me and the holiday awaited.
We entered our room and it was really neat, clean and comfortable. The kitchen had a toaster, kettle and a fridge. There was complimentary tea and coffee in the room.
The location of the hotel is very central to many of the lovely restaurants that Durban has to offer. The Gateway Shopping Centre is just a 6min drive from Umhlanga Sands.
As we were there during the school holidays, the Umhlanga Sands resort had a full week of activities for the kids which included activities such as arts and crafts, cooking and baking among others. The 2 shows we attended were the reptile and magic show. They were really interactive and entertaining.
Most of the shows happen indoors in the kids play area while some are at the pool deck. The kids play area is open until 9pm and has age appropriate activities for all kids. There is a baby area with soft toys which our 18 month really enjoyed and a more interactive section for bigger kids which include jungle gyms and a zip line in which my 4 and 6 year olds had hours of fun. For the kids who enjoy gaming there are also 2 playstation 4’s available to use. There are always staff members in the area to help and assist with anything.
What I really loved a lot was the fact that they had activities which catered for kids, adults and entire families. There was a daily minute to win it challenge for the adults as well as daily fun quizzes which took place at the pool deck. One thing I can guarantee is that there is no shortage of entertainment. You can literally spend the entire week at the resort and you will have an amazing time.
The other entertainment around the pool area include water slides and an astro soccer court. These really provided hours of entertainment for all the kids.
One of the features we loved the most was the direct access to the beach. The promenade walk to the Whale Bone Pier had become something we looked forward to doing every day.
In the lobby area downstairs there are restaurants, however, none are halaal certified. There is a sweets from heaven there which is very useful for those late night ice-cream cravings. I can definitely attest to this.
Based on our families experience, we would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a relaxing break, great kids entertainment, and an overall amazing beach holiday. With such a variety of entertainment on offer you will surely find something that will excite you.
