“OUTDOOR PLAY is among the greatest gifts we can give our children; and healthy, adventurous and curious children are among the greatest gifts we can give our communities”. Gary Erikickson & Kit Crawford.

If you are travelling to Cape Town and want to experience some local vibes while giving the kids a chance to be free and just play after a long day of sightseeing then here’s an idea for you. If you are a local, check out this bustling park any day of the week in the evenings after work.

Lawson road park. This park is in the centre of a residential area and down the road from the Taronga Road Masjid (mosque). The features of this park include: a 550m track; you will find many people running on this track during the mornings and late afternoons and you will also find kids using the track to ride their bicycles and scooters. There is a kids jungle gym, slides, swings and an outdoor gym. You will also find some dads and kids or groups of kids playing soccer in the park as well as some exercise group classes taking place.

This park is loved by kids and adults alike. It’s the perfect place to come to for an evening stroll as you have an amazing view of table mountain. It is relatively safe as it is always busy so even if you want to come alone for a quick outdoor run it’s the perfect place to get fit and active with or without the kids. On weekends (as of the last time we were at this park), a guy comes with his horse for the kids to have horse/carriage rides at a minimal fee.
